So, as I was reading the rules, there were two things that really jumped out at me. First, 'A' players have to move up to 'AA' or open after their FIRST win in 'A'. Why did this change? The reason why people play 'A' is because they don't like the smaller courts or the sand, so why should we have to move up after only one win. That's lame. It's a totally different game between 'A' an Open.

Second, the rules say that you can not only double a hard driven ball, but you can lift it also. Here is the exact wording from the handbook.

“A player may have successive contacts with a hard driven ball.

The ball must be contacted cleanly and not held (including lifted, pushed,

caught, carried or thrown). The ball cannot roll or come to rest on any part

of a player’s body.

An exception is allowed during the defensive play of a hard-driven ball,

which is an attack-hit or blocked ball traveling at a high rate of speed, (as

judged by the referee). In that case, the ball may be momentarily lifted or

pushed, providing that the attempt is one continuous motion.”

So now, you can pretty much do whatever you want on a hard driven ball. Why did they change this? You should never be able to lift the ball. Last year, the rule didn't say hard-driven either, it was just an attacked-hit, which I think this way is better because nobody knows the definition of an attack-hit, but they do know what a hard driven ball is.

The double/lift rule is an outdoor rule and should be consistent with all divisions just like all outdoor doubles should be played on a shorter court because it's not 1994 anymore.  I don't understand why huge court sizes are still used in the gr****? Doesn't make any sense, all it does is give the worse players a better chance to win becausue all their long mis-hit shots will land in when the court is the size of a football field.

This rule is not any differant than before.  The problem was that the rule book was not very complete.  We have put great effort durring the off season to get a rule book that is more accurate.

I think the new rule that once you win one tournament in A that you have to go up to double A is GREAT!!!.  the problem with 2 wins was that NO ONE WOULD PLAY IN  DOUBLE A.   I would like to be a good player and increase my skills and move up in divisions hopefully to OPEN someday, having short courts and open rules would be a nice helpful transition from AA to open.   AA is already a nice transition from A to open(as long as there are enough people playing in it to actually have a tournament) years past when i would win 2 tournaments and have to go up to open it was a VERY BIG JUMP.  now that there is AA it shouldn't be a big deal to win one and play in AA its just the elite of A. last year with the 2 wins it was aweful to play in AA because there were never enough teams signed up.

I can see that this rule of one win would be hard for people who like to play in their comfort zone and WIN PRIZES, i like winning prizes too,but we can't cater to people who just want to stay in a lower division and win prizes.

**but its no fun when you do finally go up to AA and theres only 2 or 3 teams signed up.

I know i watched some championship games a few years ago in mens A that were just a joke because both teams had already won one tournament and wanted to stay in A to win prizes.  I don't like watching or playing in games that i know teams are trying to lose.

I guess if there are those who can't handle playing the real rules Like open then they will still just lose games so they can take 2nd place every week and never have to move up, but the game should NOT be compromised or changed for them.

hopefully we will have some great tournaments in AA in preparation to go up to Open Laugh
